Welcome to my first blog ever! What an amazing summer we have had here in Tasmania.
This year’s summer season saw many brides arrive in beautiful, flowing feminine dresses in florals and traditional white…the guys chose chinos, white shirts and even shorts, but you don’t have to dress up! it doesn’t matter what you wear; it’s what you feel comfortable in. It’s all about celebrating your love.

Couples shared wonderful stories about what had bought them here to be wed. One couple had been through so much adversity and so many trials over the last few years, you couldn’t help but shed a tear when hearing their story.
One gorgeous couple were on their way to do some mountain biking; they didn’t want any fuss…they were just making it legal and surprising the family. Some couples came from all over the world to Tasmania to say their “I do’s.” I think the furthest away were Joe from Iceland and his beautiful bride Jacq from California. Joe had been here once before and loved it so much that he decided that this would be the place to marry.
We had so many weddings this year at the Launceston City Park, too. It really is such an amazing place for a ceremony; a little oasis right in the middle of our city. We had some really hot days this summer – well, for Tasmania, it was a bit too warm for some – and it was lovely to find a little bit of respite under the shady trees. So many couples chose to get married in a simple ceremony when they came home to spend time with their family at Christmas…and the parks and gardens were the perfect location.

On the road trip front, this season we went to the beautiful Eagles Nest Retreat at Sheffield and out to the quaint village of Lilydale. I call it a road trip because we generally just perform ceremonies at the locations available on the web page, but sometimes we get asked to come along to where the couple is staying and have a small intimate ceremony. So, for a little extra, we can come to you (yes, we can arrange that). Got to love a road trip!
Some couples come on their own and my ever-faithful little band of witnesses also performed beautifully this season on babysitting duties, taking pics on the iPhone when the couple did not have a photographer, and anything else that was required.
Many of you know that at Simple marriage ceremonies Tasmania we pride ourselves in professionalism, communication and attention to detail. It’s definitely all about enjoying your day – not stressing – just feeling relaxed and comfortable as just sometimes, only sometimes, things don’t go to plan.
Funny Story
One of my witnesses (who shall remain nameless, as she would die of embarrassment) is one that I would consider not that brilliant at using an iPhone for photographs, but if you set everything up for her she is okay with it. Everything was sorted out, all was going well until, at the last minute, the couple decided that they would like her to video the ceremony instead to send to their families. The poor girl nearly had a meltdown. Fortunately, only I could see that and she held it together. We started the ceremony and I think I said “Welcome, my name is Lee-ann.” Coming from behind me, I could hear what almost sounded like hyperventilating. I quickly turned around and asked what the matter was…she said that everything had gone black, had no idea what she was doing and was getting so upset that she was not able to video the ceremony for the couple. The moral to the story: do not give her the phone, give her another duty that does not involve technology and let the other witness record the ceremony.
Our next season is Autumn; one of the prettiest times in Tasmania. The leaves are beautiful on the many varied trees, the banks of the river at Deloraine look amazing and it’s a little bit cooler. The days are stiller and the light superb for photographs, plus it’s not too late to book…you just need to lodge your signed/witnessed ‘Notice of intention to marry’ form with your celebrant one month before you can legally marry in Australia. We can arrange it all very quickly and simply online – there’s no need to meet beforehand.

Well, that’s it from me for now. Enjoy life.
